Student Visa (Subclass 500)
The Student visa (subclass 500) permits international students to reside in Australia while undertaking an approved course of study.
- Be enrolled in a course of study in Australia;
- Hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), unless exempt;
- Be at least six years of age;
- Provide welfare arrangements if under 18 years of age;
- Provide welfare arrangements if under 18 years of age;
- Satisfy the genuine temporary entrant requirement;
- Meet health and character requirements; and
- Meet English language requirements, where applicable.
Visa holders are permitted to work up to 48 hours per fortnight. Family members of the primary visa holder may not work until the student has commenced their course. Family members of students enrolled in a master’s or doctoral degree may work without restriction once the primary visa holder has begun their studies.
Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590)
The Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) is a temporary visa that allows a parent, custodian, or relative to accompany a student visa holder in Australia to provide care and support. This visa is generally available where the student is under 18 years of age, or older in exceptional circumstances.
Applicants must
- Be the student’s parent, custodian, or relative aged 21 years or older;
- Demonstrate sufficient financial capacity to support themselves and the student during their stay; and

The duration of the visa is determined by the student visa holder’s age and length of stay.
Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)
Temporary Graduate visa is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian education institution. The visa allows eligible students to live and work in Australia temporarily after completion of studies from 18 months up to 4 years depending on your situation.
It is a good way to extend your stay in Australia to improve your chances of becoming eligible for a permanent or provisional skilled visa. The primary applicant must be in Australia when they make their application for a 485 visa, and must have held an eligible student visa within the 6 month period prior to lodgement.

Training Visa (Subclass 407)
The Training visa (subclass 407) is a temporary visa that permits applicants to undertake workplace based training or professional development in Australia for a period of up to two years. This visa covers three categories of occupational training:
- Training required for registration;
- Training to improve skills in an eligible occupation; and
- Training for capacity building overseas, including overseas qualifications, government support, or professional development.
Applicants must
- Be sponsored;
- Be nominated, unless the sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency; and
- Be invited, if the sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency.
Family members may be included in the application or added prior to a decision being made. All applicants must satisfy health and character requirements.
